There are generally two types of water coolers:

The water is then gravity-fed or pumped into the cooling and dispensing system. Bottled water coolers require periodic replacement of the water bottles.

Point-of-Use Water Coolers: Also known as plumbed-in or direct-connect water coolers, these units are connected directly to a water supply, eliminating the need for water bottles. They are typically installed near a water line and may include filtration systems to provide clean and purified water.

Water coolers often have a refrigeration unit that cools the water, ensuring it is refreshing to drink. Some models also have a heating function to dispense hot water for making tea, coffee, or other hot beverages. Water coolers usually have a dispenser tap or button for easy access to the water, and they may include additional features like temperature control and indicator lights.
